One of the major advantages of Eglum Encrypter is a specially designed service for secure transfer of encryption passwords to recipients of your encrypted e-mail. This service is called the Online Account Keeper.

The password is required to encrypt and decrypt text. If the person receiving an encrypted message does not have the right password, they will not be able to view it. If the password becomes known to another individual, then this third party will be able to read your private, encrypted e-mail. This is why the transfer of a password must be conducted so that it does not get into the hands of a third party. It is not recommended that you send the password by e-mail, because the contents of the message could easily fall into the wrong hands.

Conventional methods of password transfer
Presently, the most common method of password transfer is over the phone, fax, or quite simply using e-mail. There is, however, a large risk of the password falling into the wrong hands. It is obvious that the most effective way of transferring the password is in person, but that may not always be possible.

Online Account Keeper- secure password transfer
We offer you a unique method of password transfer, using a service called the Online Account Keeper, specially designed for this purpose. It is available to all registered users of Eglum Encrypter, but it is optional. You may choose not to use it, and transfer your encryption passwords with the conventional method, as it is described above. However, if you want to guarantee the confidentiality of the transfer, then don't hesitate to make use of the Online Account Keeper.

An illustration of the password transfer process using the Online Account Keeper

1 : The encryption password is transferred to the Online Account Keeper
2 : A notification with the Online Account Key is sent by you to the intended recipient.
3 : The recipient enters the Online Account Key in their Eglum Encrypter
4 : The program downloads the encryption password to the recipient's computer.

Online Account Keeper - How it works
In order for the program to automatically decrypt text, the recipient of the message must have the exact same account in his/her database as the person sending the message. The transfer of an account (with the encryption password) can be performed using a special service called the Online Account Keeper.
This is how it works :
  • having created an account on your computer, choose the Send account info using Online Account Keeper option in the program. Once you have done that, the program will place the information about the account in a special database of the Online Account Keeper service located on the www.eglum.com server.
  • next, you should send an e-mail notification to the intended recipient of your encrypted messages. This notice should contain the Online Account Key and instructions on how to use it. A sample body text of such a message can be found inside the Eglum Encrypter.
  • the intended recipient of your account must choose the Import account option in the Eglum Encrypter and enter the Online Account Key (which they received from you by e-mail), after which the program will automatically download the account information to the recipient's computer.

Having done all that, both you and your respondent will have the same account (including the encryption password) on your computers, so that you can exchange encrypted messages with ease and convenience.

An important feature of this service is that the account information can only be downloaded once. Once you connect to the server and enter the Online Account Key, the information about the account is immediately deleted. So if a third party somehow gets possession of the Online Account Key and uses it, then the intended recipient of the account will no longer be able to obtain the desired information. If this happens, you can simply create a new account, send it again and delete the old one. We recommend that you start using a new account only once you receive confirmation that the other person obtained the necessary account information. This guarantees that only you and the respondent have the encryption password.

    Database of accounts
We will begin by describing the purpose and function of an Account. Eglum Encrypter offers you the option of creating a database of people you frequently communicate with, along with their individual passwords. Each time you want to encrypt a message, you just need to choose the person/organization from this database and the program will automatically enter the right password.
An account is an entry in the database, which describes a person or organization that you correspond with. Apart from the name of the individual (or company), the account contains the password that you use to encrypt and decrypt their messages, as well as a unique account ID.
When you send an encrypted message, it will not only contain information about the password, but about the entire account as well. If the account being used is not identified, the program will prompt you to enter the password manually. If the account is recognized, the program will locate it in your database, determine the password and automatically decrypt the text.
In other words, the sole purpose of an account is to automate the encryption/decryption process. You can exchange messages without the use of accounts, but you will have to enter the password manually each time you want to decrypt a piece of text.
